For many children, the tradition of leaving a plate of cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve is a magical and exciting moment. Watching the delight on your children’s faces as you help them prepare a plate of cookies and a glass of milk for Santa Claus and perhaps even a carrot for Rudolf the reindeer, create specials memories that you and your children will remember for years to come. The tradition of Christmas baking not only teaches your children to share but also teaches them the value of home baking. It allows them to let loose with their creative side while also having fun. So, as the count down to Christmas has begun, why not try my easy to make Santa Cookies recipe below that you and all the family can try.
Santa Cookies Recipe
The easy recipe below can be followed by children of all ages and enjoyed by adults too. Don’t worry about perfecting the shape or size, Santa doesn’t mind if his cookies are a little misshaped because he knows they were made with love and lots of laughter.
Ingredients
- 125g/4oz butter
- 55g/2oz caster sugar, plus extra to finish
- 180g/6oz plain flour
- Handful of chocolate chips (Optional but it is Christmas after all)
Directions
- Heat the oven to 190c/375F/Gas 5
- Beat the butter and the sugar together until smooth
Stir in the flour to get a smooth paste. Place onto a work surface and gently roll out until the paste is 1cm / ½ in thick - Stir in the chocolate chips
- Cut into circles or whatever festive shape you like and place onto a baking tray. Sprinkle with caster sugar and chill in the fridge for 20 minutes
- Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until pale golden brown
- Set aside to cool on a wire rack
- Have lots of fun decorating with icing or other toppings.
PS – While the cookies are cooking, it’s the perfect time to write a little note to leave out for Santa! The most important thing about getting these cookies right is lots of laughter & fun.
